Embracing Authenticity in LeadHERship: Unapologetically Feminine

FRIEND! I have to tell you about an experience that really reminded me of the importance of standing firm in my feminine power, even when others don't quite get it. If you know me you know I love bold colors, 6-inch heels, and dramatic eye makeup. I flow into a space smelling like patchouli and lemongrass and sparkling like diamonds. My presence is gentle, but its safe to say I stand out in a room full of suits.

This happened: I walked into a gathering where I was the guest speaker for a fireside chat. Vibing high - feeling confident and ready to share my ideas - I was making my rounds of introductions when a guy reached out to shake my hand. O-M-GOODNESS, it felt like a vice grip! My fingers were screaming! I flinched and signaled for a release by letting my hand and arm go limp. He was holding tight. I looked him in the eye and kindly asked him to soften his grip. He "tried" with me still wincing before he said he "couldn't do it". I guess my look said "WHAT?!?!?" because he then scoffed, "These hands have delivered babies." Can you believe it? He was actually offended that I even asked.

I smiled and moved on to the next attendee. He clearly didn't understand my gentle strength, but that was his issue, not mine. There are some sisters that don't get it either but that moment reinforced my commitment to always presenting as my true self, no matter what. I choose not to conform to the expectations of others.

Reflective Question for Self-Exploration:

Think back to a time when you were in a space that demanded you match an energy that just wasn't you. How did you handle it? Did you stay true to yourself, or did you feel pressured to conform? How did it make you feel afterward? Take a moment to reflect on this experience and journal your thoughts.

Now, imagine how you'll handle a similar situation in the future. Helpful suggestion: Plan to stand firm in your authenticity, knowing your true power lies in being yourself.

Affirmation

"I give myself permission to embrace my authentic self in every situation, knowing that my feminine strength is powerful and worthy. I honor my gentle presence and lead with grace, unapologetically standing firm in who I am. I celebrate my uniqueness and confidently navigate spaces with my own radiant energy."

Sis, remember our true gift to humanity lies in our authenticity. By embracing the power of our femininity, we hold space ourselves and encourage others to do the same. Actress Viola Davis says “When women support each other, incredible things happen.” Let's work together to create a culture where leadHERship reflects the diversity and energy of the EXTRAordinary women who are paving the path.

Peace + blessings...

Teresa
